2021, what a freaking year. It was by far my craziest year as a Wedding Photographer. I think most wedding vendors (if not, all) could say the same. It was a hectic, yet wildly fun and exciting year for weddings. With the season wrapped up, and the year coming to an end… I’m beyond ecstatic for the new year, and what’s to be expected for 2022 weddings. Here are 5 2022 wedding trends that I can’t wait to see!
It’s predicted that we will see many more couples choosing to ditch their hometown venues and turn their wedding into a full-on getaway! With travel restrictions expected to continue lightening up and smaller guests lists still taking reign, there’s much more flexibility in planning destination weddings in 2022. This is one of the trends I’m most excited for. As a traveling wedding photographer that’s always up for an adventure, destination weddings are my absolute favorite!
Couples planning their wedding in 2022 are opting for more unique ways to keep their guests entertained. DJs and Live bands are great… but weddings are expected to see an increase in different forms of interactive entertainment like tattoo booths, acrobats, yard games, cigar bars, live painters, and fortune-tellers. COUNT ME IN.
From vintage bar-carts and getaway cars, to 60’s inspired bridal fashion- the nod to nostalgia is alive and here to stay for the upcoming wedding season. We’ll be seeing a lot of vintage-inspired wedding decor and wedding fashion trends, and I’m HERE. FOR. IT.
It was no surprise that intimate weddings were huge in 2021 (thanks, covid). Although event size restrictions have been lifted in most states, weddings with elements of intimacy are still on the rise. Even with larger guest lists, couples will be opting for cozy wedding venues, romantic lighting, family-style dining, and comfortable furniture throughout to add a more intimate feel to their wedding day.
Gone are the days of your boring traditional wedding portraits. Wedding style is evolving to be very fashion focused, and you can expect to see wedding portraits become more in line with photos you would see in an editorial spread. Couples + Wedding Photographers will be making more stylistic choices for their portrait time, embracing the opportunity to create that editorial style that you see portrayed in fashion magazines like Vogue and Harpers Baazar.
This might be one of my favorite trends for 2022, as I’ve always had an appreciation for creative and editorial-style wedding portraits. I think every couple should feel like a supermodel on their wedding day, and I love being able to give them images to look back on and remember that feeling.
