If you’re looking for a location for engagement photos in Washington that feels scenic without requiring a huge hike, Ebey’s Landing on Whidbey Island is honestly hard to beat.
Between the coastal bluff views, grassy fields, beach access, and soft Pacific Northwest light, it’s one of my favorite places for couples who want engagement photos that feel relaxed, adventurous, and true to them.
Jason and Megan’s engagement session at Ebey’s Landing was the perfect example of that.

One of the reasons I love photographing sessions at Ebey’s Landing is because you get so much variety without needing to drive between locations.
Within a short walking distance, you have:
It’s also one of the best engagement session locations near Seattle for couples who want that outdoorsy Pacific Northwest feel without committing to a difficult mountain hike.
The entire area feels quiet and peaceful, especially closer to sunset.

From the beginning of this session, Jason and Megan made everything feel easy.
They spent most of the evening laughing, spinning each other around on the trails, piggybacking through the grass, and fully embracing the windy coastal weather instead of worrying about it needing to look “perfect.”
Honestly, that’s usually what makes sessions photograph the best.
The couples who let themselves move around, joke with each other, and stay present always end up with photos that feel the most genuine later.
One of my favorite parts of this session was how naturally the evening unfolded. We explored the bluff trails first, wandered down toward the beach, included their dogs for part of the session, and ended the night barefoot in the water.
Those unplanned moments always end up being the most memorable ones.
Jason and Megan absolutely nailed their outfit choices for this location.
Their neutral tones and denim worked perfectly against the muted coastal colors, and Megan’s green dress for the beach portion blended beautifully with the soft ocean backdrop.
For engagement sessions I usually recommend:
AVOID
This location can get windy, which actually photographs incredibly well. Movement in hair, dresses, and clothing helps the photos feel more natural and alive.
I’m always a huge fan of couples bringing their dogs to engagement sessions when possible.

Not only does it make the session feel more personal, but it also helps document this season of life in a way that actually reflects your relationship outside of photos.
And realistically… dogs at the beach make everything better.
Ebey’s Landing is beautiful year-round, but late summer and early fall are especially gorgeous because of the golden grasses and warmer evenings along the coast.
I would highly suggest late July to early September.
That said, overcast weather works incredibly well here too. The cloudy skies during this session gave everything a softer, moodier feel that matched the coastline perfectly.
If possible, I usually recommend planning your session around sunset for the best light and fewer crowds.
If you’re planning engagement photos on Whidbey Island and want a location that feels adventurous, romantic, and naturally beautiful without being overly difficult to access, Ebey’s Landing is easily one of the best options in Washington.
Whether you want photos that feel playful and candid or quiet and intimate, this location gives so much flexibility while still feeling distinctly Pacific Northwest.
And if you’re looking for a Whidbey Island engagement photographer, I’d love to help you plan a session that feels relaxed, intentional, and genuinely true to your relationship.

If you’re dreaming of engagement photos that feel less stiff and more like an actual experience together, I’d love to help you plan something intentional and true to your relationship. Whether that looks like running around the coast of Whidbey Island, bringing your dogs along, getting barefoot in the ocean, or simply slowing down together somewhere beautiful — my goal is always to create photos that feel natural, emotional, and genuinely you.
